TLFG: 31 October - 6 November 2022

Despite my best efforts to grab a bit of time here and there, it's approaching 1am and I'm still up writing this week's piece.

Don't get me wrong, I love doing it but I would rather be in bed at this time of night - thankfully I have a day off tomorrow or rather today.

I managed to get two games in this week - they were both entertaining and both were free to watch, happy days!

On Friday I made my second visit of the season to Loftus Road to watch QPR's B team play Ipswich Town in a lunchtime game.

I could only make it for the second half and on my way to the ground, friends were sending messages not to come as we were 4-1 down at the interval.

Millwall are hosting Brondby in a friendly during the World Cup - tickets

Undeterred and knowing I had nothing to lose by attending, I carried on with a foolhardy optimism that we would turn things around.

Such faith was not misplaced as the R's fought back to make it 4-4 and would probably have gone on to win it if defender Connor Masterson hadn't been sent off with around 10 minutes to go, adding another intriguing twist to an already very entertaining game.

My next match on Sunday was a very different affair.

Returning to the Gunnersbury Park Sports Hub, I went to watch Actonians Reserves take on Camden Town.

The hosts were top of the Greater London Women's Football League after steamrollering several opponents and Camden weren't expected to offer much.

However, for the second game in a row, the favourites started poorly and went 1-0 down within seconds after a mix-up in defence gifted a chance to Camden's centre-forward who wasted no time in lobbing Actonians' stranded goalkeeper.

The rest of the half was a real grind for the leaders and they could easily have fallen further behind as the visitors' pacey front three caused them all kinds of problems.

Thankfully for them, an equaliser from Anne-Marie Pejcic arrived shortly before half-time when she bundled in from close range on what was scheduled to be her last game before a move to Maidenhead United.

The second half was again desperately close but Actonians probably just about shaded things but also rode their luck at times.

With three minutes to go, right-back Shadia Edwards-Dashti curled a ball to the back post where Kayleigh Peters saw her effort hit the post.

Unable to get hold of it, Camden's keeper could do little to stop Peters turning home the rebound to spark wild celebrations.

Actonians Reserves endured a tough afternoon against Camden Town

The referee had caused numerous grumbles from the home support but more than made up for it when the last kick of the game seemed to smash firmly into an Actonians player's hand in the area.

However, he waved all penalty appeals away and blew the final whistle instead.

The 2-1 win keeps Actonians top ahead of their crunch match against title rivals Islington Borough this Sunday at the same venue.

In other news, I  noticed this weekend that Millwall have scheduled a friendly during the World Cup against Danish club Brondby - tickets are only £10 and should be well worth a watch.

I'm not aware of any other clubs doing anything similar but let me know if you hear of anything on your travels.

QPR have lots of B team games during that period so I presume they'll just put out really strong sides to keep things ticking over.

As I mentioned recently, TLFG reader Tuncay Y would like to know where different nationalities will gather to watch World Cup matches in London during the tournament which begins next month.

He suggested a bar called El Comandante very close to Arsenal's Emirates Stadium which is run by a Bolivian and is very popular with fans of South American teams.

Since then I've heard from another reader Balham, who recommends Casa Benfica not far from Clapham Junction for Portugal matches.

Do you have any information on where the best places will be to see the likes of Australia play France or Qatar take on Senegal? All suggestions very welcome.

I think that's it from me, have a great week.

THE WEEK AHEAD

The highlights of the next few days include games in the Champions League, Europa League, Premier League, EFL, FA Cup, Women's Super League and many other games in our local non-league and women's competitions.

As always, please make sure you check with clubs before you travel just in case a game has been called off or the venue or kick-off time has changed - this is highly possible for some of the lower non-league clubs. Also, please let me know if anything is wrong or missing.

Details on all of this week's games can be found on the following match maps. If you've never used them before, please note that when there is more than one match at a specific ground you'll only be able to see individual match pins if you zoom right in. If you don't, the pins obscure each other and you might miss them. To avoid this, you can also scroll down the list of games on the drop down menu at the top of the map page to make sure you get all the information. Games are listed from top to bottom in date order so Monday's games (yellow pin) will appear first and Sunday's (orange pin) last. Games are also ranked in terms of status so the higher the division, the higher up the list they will appear on each day.
Also if you're unfamiliar with the English league structure I indicate the level at which an individual league sits in the national 'pyramid' with the Premier League at the top (Level 1) and various minor leagues at the bottom (Level 10). Typically a top level game will see crowds of anywhere between 20,000-60,000. These figures will gradually decline as you go down the leagues until you get to Levels 8-10 where attendances of 150 or less are most common.

It should also be noted that the top four levels are for fully professional teams. Level 5 has a mixture of professional and semi-professional teams, while Levels 6-10 will see most players paid but it will vary from no more than travel expenses at the bottom, right up to several hundred pounds a week at the top.

TLFG DAILY DIGEST
In the following section, I list, by day, what are in my opinion the most notable games of the week and give some brief reasons for my choice. Check the maps above for kick-off times, ticket info and directions.

Monday 31 October

Premier League 2
Arsenal v Crystal Palace @7pm - there are a couple of decent U21 options on Monday with the Gunners' match against the Eagles being the pick of the games. Being played at Boreham Wood, entrance is usually free

Professional Development League
Millwall v Cardiff City @2pm - earlier in the day, the Lions' youngsters welcome their counterparts from Cardiff to The Den. Tickets are £5

Isthmian League Premier Division
Carshalton Athletic v Margate @745pm - if you'd prefer to watch a match of some importance then this seventh-tier game could be for you. The sides are only a point apart in midtable but the hosts have games in hand that could move them into the top six if they win them

--------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday 1 November

National League
Barnet v Southend United @745pm - with Halloween out of the way, we're into November and it's non-league football that takes centre stage on Tuesday. This match between two former EFL clubs looks well worth 90 minutes of your time. Both are in decent form and find themselves on the cusp of the play-off places. Tickets

National League South
Dartford v Welling United @745pm - if you're on the south-east side of town, it's all about this derby. The hosts have had some decent results of late and have climbed back up to second, two points behind leaders Ebbsfleet. The Wings are having one of their best seasons for a while and rose to eighth after beating Hungerford on Saturday. Princes Park is one of the most modern non-league grounds within the M25 and should welcome a hefty crowd for this one. Tickets

Isthmian League Premier Division
Hornchurch v Haringey Borough @745pm - the Urchins moved up to third after winning at Margate on Saturday. This means they're the top club in the league from the London area. Now only three points behind leaders Potters Bar Town, they've got two games in hand and things are looking good. Haringey are in the bottom six and should be beaten

FA Youth Cup First Round
With the qualifying rounds out of the way, the country's most prestigious U18 competition reaches its first round 'proper'. There are a couple of ties on Tuesday with Sutton United and Leyton Orient meeting for a decent-looking derby and Haringey based New Salamis playing Colchester United in what will be a huge night for the non-league club's youngsters

--------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday 2 November

UEFA Champions League
Chelsea v Dinamo Zagreb @8pm - the Blues suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat at Brighton on Saturday but should face a slightly more comfortable evening here. Although they lost the away match in Croatia at the beginning of September, they come into this knowing that they're already through to the next round - they just need a draw here to win the group. Tickets have sold out

EFL Trophy
Charlton Athletic v Brighton & Hove Albion U21 @7pm - we're two games into the group stage and these sides have managed one win between them. This competition is a real drag for most of those taking part and there's little to get the juices flowing here other than the £10 entry fee. Tickets

London Senior Cup First Round
Cray Wanderers v Leyton Orient @745pm - London's oldest club begin their LSC campaign with a match against the O's. Kudos to the east London club for continuing to enter a side - hopefully we'll see more Premier League and Championship clubs do the same soon. Orient can potentially field a full-strength team but it's more likely to be an U21/U23 side

--------------------------------------------------------------
Thursday 3 November

UEFA Europa League
Arsenal v FC Zurich @8pm - the Gunners' women played Zurich in the Champions League here last week and won 3-1. Mikel Arteta's side will be hopeful of achieving something similar after winning the away game against their male counterparts 2-1 in September. With qualification for the next stage secured, it's now about making sure of top spot and only a win here will do. Tickets are only available to members

FA Youth Cup First Round
AFC Wimbledon v Lewes @7pm - if you haven't had a chance to visit the new Plough Lane yet then this could be your chance. Tickets for this U18 game are just £5

----------------------------------------------------------------

Friday 4 November

Premier League 2
Crystal Palace v Leicester City @7pm - tickets for matches at Selhurst Park are hard to come by unless you have membership. However, anyone can go to U21 games so if you want to get this ground ticked off your list it's only £5 for tickets

Essex Senior League
Romford v Ilford @745pm - although neither are doing particularly well, this is one of the biggest derbies in the ninth tier. If you look at the map, you can see how close together they are. Romford are without a ground of their own, so this is at Barking

SCEFL Premier Division
Stansfeld v Glebe @745pm - on the south-east side of town, we've got a tenants versus landlords groundshare derby. Stansfeld won promotion to the ninth tier at the end of last season and are pushing for promotion again. Glebe had a great season last year but have yet to get going and are down in 10th

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday 5 November

Championship
Millwall v Hull City @3pm - despite a large number of London clubs playing in the Premier League, their European commitments mean many of them aren't playing until Sunday so the Championship is the best you'll get today. The Lions saw their decent winning run come to an end on Saturday at Huddersfield and saw them miss out on a place in the top five. Hull have made a disappointing start and could conceivably find themselves in the relegation zone if they lose. Tickets
QPR v West Bromwich Albion @3pm - the R's lost their place in the top two after a fairly comfortable 2-0 defeat at Birmingham on Friday night. Still third with a game in hand, things are looking pretty rosy and they should fancy their chances against the bottom club. Besides, it's my birthday that day and they simply have to win for that reason! Tickets
Watford v Coventry City @3pm - three wins from four have seen the Hornets move back up to 7th, seemingly ending their rather sticky patch. The Sky Blues are in the bottom three but have played fewer games than everyone else as their pitch wasn't fit to host games at the beginning of the season. The club are now in further turmoil as the owners of their stadium are in financial difficulty and they could be locked out again very shortly. They've also had a transfer embargo imposed on them while they pay debts they owe to HMRC -  a worrying time for all involved. Tickets

FA Cup First Round
For me, this is one of the most exciting days of the football calendar as all the surviving non-league teams go into the draw alongside all the pro clubs from League One and League Two. The winners of each tie receive a cheque for £41,000 which added to winnings in previous rounds, could mean a transformative amount of money for some clubs - the stakes are high!

Barnet v Chelmsford City @3pm - there's an all non-league tie at The Hive where the fifth-tier hosts should start as favourites. Possibly in the National League's play-off places by the time this match begins, the north London club should have too much for their Essex opponents. However, the visitors beat fifth tier Aldershot Town in the last round so they needn't feel overawed. Tickets
Boreham Wood v Eastleigh @3pm - the Wood were the non-league story of the FA Cup last season as they made it all the way to Fifth Round, eventually losing 2-0 to Everton at Goodison Park. They made it to the Third Round the year before too so they've got some decent recent pedigree. Currently sixth in the National League, you'd expect them to see off Eastleigh who are in midtable. Tickets
Charlton Athletic v Coalville Town @3pm - for the cup romantics, this is probably the most eye-catching tie in London this weekend. It pits a former Premier League side against a club from a small town in Leicestershire who play in the seventh tier. They've made the First Round once before but have never gone any further and it will take a Herculean effort for them to make progress here. Tickets
Sutton United v Farnborough @3pm - there's one other tie between a league and non-league club but with Sutton so new to the pro ranks, to me this still feels like a non-league match as these two must have played each other loads of times over the years. Two divisions currently separate them and with home advantage and a proud FA Cup tradition of their own, the U's should prevail. Tickets

National League South
Dartford v Braintree Town @3pm - if results go their way in midweek, the Darts could come into this game as leaders. Even if they don't, it will still see two of the top five meet for a hugely important game

Isthmian League Premier Division
Enfield Town v Hastings United @3pm - my pick in the seventh tier sees the fifth placed Towners welcome Hastings who are eighth at the time of writing. Enfield often draw a lively crowd and with the visitors getting the highest average attendances in the division, there should be a decent atmosphere

Isthmian League South East
Beckenham Town v Chatham Town @3pm - while their FA Cup run was going on, the Becks lost a bit of ground in the league. Currently seven points adrift of top spot, a midweek win over Chichester could cut the gap considerably and then Chatham, the current leaders arrive. It could be a very significant afternoon at Eden Park Avenue

SCEFL Premier Division
Erith & Belvedere v Rusthall @3pm - there aren't any standout games for me in the ninth tier so I advise you to head down to Park View Road to check out the progress of the Deres. They're currently seven points clear at the top with two games in hand on their nearest challengers. On Saturday they welcome Rusthall who are well capable of challenging for the runners-up spot

ECL Division 1 South
Frenford v Newbury Forest @3pm - everyone loves a derby so I'd recommend this 10th-tier fixture between two local clubs from the Ilford area. The hosts are currently second with games in hand on the leaders whilst Newbury Forest are in the bottom four. A win for Frenford could well put them top

------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday 6 November

Premier League
Chelsea v Arsenal @12pm - arguably the match of the week gets things underway at midday. London derbies don't come much bigger than this and there have been some absolute classics between the sides over the years. At the time of writing, the Gunners are having their best season in a while with Sunday's 5-0 thrashing of Nottingham Forest keeping them two points clear at the top. The Blues were doing pretty nicely under new boss Graham Potter until he returned to his former club Brighton on Saturday and lost 4-1. The defeat saw them end the weekend in sixth. Arsenal are unbeaten in three at Stamford Bridge and look well capable of extending that run here. Tickets have sold out
West Ham United v Crystal Palace @2pm - with that game over, we move from west to east for another London derby. Unless you're one of the top clubs, every point in this division is really hard won and incredibly precious. Only a couple of points apart in midtable, both sides will be eyeing wins here. Tickets
Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool @430pm - Spurs retained their place in the top three with a nervy 3-2 win at Bournemouth on Saturday. With an ever-improving Newcastle breathing down their necks, they can't afford too many slip ups. Normally one of the biggest games of the season, the Reds are a shadow of the side which won the league a couple of years ago. With four defeats from 12, they're already 15 points off the title pace and eight points adrift of fourth. If they're to get into the Champions League places, they're going to have to start looking for snookers already. Tickets are only available to members

Premier League 2
Arsenal v Everton @1pm - there's a rare bit of U21 action on Sunday afternoon at Boreham Wood. It's usually free to get in so this should provide a fine alternative if you can't into any of the above or are on a tight budget

FA Women's Super League
Tottenham Hotspur v Everton @2pm - if you're a Spurs fan who can't get into the THS to watch the Liverpool game, head to Brisbane Road instead. Rehanne Skinner's side have been blowing hot and cold this season but they were in red hot form on Sunday as they crushed Brighton 8-0 to move back up to fifth. The win moved them above Everton on goal difference. The Toffees lost 3-0 to leaders Manchester United who have won every game and are yet to concede a goal. Tickets
West Ham United v Brighton & Hove Albion @3pm - the Hammers fought gamely against Arsenal on Sunday evening and briefly held the lead. If they'd held on, they would have finished the weekend in fourth but it was not to be and they fell to seventh. As mentioned above, Brighton got thrashed on Sunday and have made a poor start. Defeat here could send them bottom. Tickets

FA Women's Championship
London City Lionesses v Birmingham City @2pm - LCL only managed a disappointing 0-0 draw with Blackburn on Sunday but kept hold of second place. That status is likely to slip in midweek when third placed Southampton play bottom club Coventry United. The Blues are sixth, so you'll get to see two of the division's best sides whatever happens
Crystal Palace v Sheffield United @2pm - the Eagles got themselves back into the top four with a 1-0 win at Durham on Sunday. The Blades have been disappointing this season and three defeats on the bounce have seen them slide to ninth

FA Women's National League Cup First Round
AFC Wimbledon v Watford @2pm - after crushing QPR 7-1 in their FA Cup tie on Sunday, the Dons will fancy themselves to cause an upset in this competition. Currently third in the fourth tier, they should be full of confidence coming into this one but they'll need to be as the Hornets are top of the division above them

GLWFL Premier Division
Actonians Reserves v Islington Borough @2pm - there's a game of huge importance at the Gunnersbury Park Sports Hub where the top two in the seventh tier do battle. Both have 100% records but the hosts are top because they've played a game more. Actonians have a huge +24 goal difference after just six games but were made to work really hard on Sunday by a Camden side who Islington put six past earlier in the season. Another great option if you're on a budget as it's free entry

TLFG: 24-30 October 2022

Greetings everyone and welcome to TLFG.

In a week where the UK saw another prime minister depart, setting a new record for the shortness of time in post, and an old one threaten to return and then drop out - it's been quite a few days.

On the pitch, Arsenal still lead the way at the top of the English football pyramid despite only managing a draw with Southampton.

In the second tier, QPR went top after beating Cardiff in midweek and then stayed there after another win over Wigan on Saturday.

They also fended off an approach for manager Michael Beale from Premier League strugglers Wolves, which was a huge boost to all involved at Loftus Road.

A London club also leads the way in League Two, where Leyton Orient returned to the top after a win at Carlisle.

Arsenal are also top of the tree in the women's game too with their win at Liverpool on Sunday evening putting them top of the WSL.

However, it was their 5-1 win at reigning European champions Lyon in midweek that caused quite a stir around the continent and laid down a real marker for the rest of their Champions League campaign.

My own football watching took me to Rectory Park on Sunday to see Actonians take on Ashford Town in the Third Round Qualifying of the Women's FA Cup.

Regular readers might have noticed that the last time these sides played was three weeks ago at the Robert Parker Stadium in a league fixture.

Actonians won 3-0 that day and hadn't played since so they should have been confident going into this one.

Japanese midfielder Natsumi Kanno scored the opener for Actonians

With the terrible weather clearing up almost miraculously in time for kick-off, the two sides got underway in bright sunshine.

The home supporters didn't have long to wait for a breakthrough as Japanese star midfielder Natsumi Kanno scored from range after Ashford's goalkeeper totally misjudged the bounce of the ball and seemed to dive under it - the strong sun probably didn't help.

Chances came and went at either end but Actonians were largely pretty comfortable.

With the half almost up, they inflicted a damaging double strike with Meila D'Santos scoring direct from a corner and Maria Ledezma-Viso crashing an effort into the top-left corner after a strong run down the right.

Trailing 3-0 at the break, it would've been easy for Ashford to wilt and simply give up but that didn't happen.

Perhaps a little complacently, the hosts appeared to coast through the opening 15 minutes after the interval and allowed the visitors to have much more of the ball.

With an hour on the clock they had one back after a cross was bundled in at the far post to make it 3-1.

An injury to Jess Drage allowed boss Danny Harrigan to call his players to the side and give them a brief pep-talk and it seemed to work as minutes later, D'Santos grabbed her second from close range after the visitors failed to clear a corner.

It was one-way traffic after that but there were no further goals and Actonians completed a 4-1 win.

The result saw them pick up prize money of £4,000, which should go a long way at this level, and put them in the hat for Monday's First Round draw when all the third-tier teams enter.

I don't know if you'd noticed, but I'm really enjoying this women's football lark!

As I mentioned last week, TLFG reader Tuncay Y would like to know where different nationalities will gather to watch World Cup matches in London during the tournament which begins next month.

He suggested a bar called El Comandante very close to Arsenal's Emirates Stadium which is run by a Bolivian and is very popular with fans of South American teams.

I think that's it from me, have a great week.

TLFG DAILY DIGEST
In the following section, I list, by day, what are in my opinion the most notable games of the week and give some brief reasons for my choice. Check the maps above for kick-off times, ticket info and directions.

Monday 24 October

Premier League
West Ham United v AFC Bournemouth @8pm - the week gets underway with what could become quite a significant game as the season progresses. After a couple of very successful years, the Hammers have made a slow start to this campaign and are just above the relegation zone where the Cherries were expected to be. The Dorset club, still under Gary O'Neil's caretaker management, are doing better than many thought and are a couple of points ahead. David Moyes' team really need to win this or it could be a long season. Tickets

Professional Development League
QPR v Watford @7pm - on the west side of town, the R's U21 side play their counterparts from Watford in what should be a competitive game at Hanwell Town. Admission is usually around £3

--------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday 25 October

League One
Charlton Athletic v MK Dons @745pm - three consecutive wins have seen the Addicks fly up to seventh in the table, something that looked unlikely a few weeks ago. The visitors are having a terrible time and are bottom so there's a very real chance of Ben Garner's side moving into the play-off places. Tickets

League Two
AFC Wimbledon v Crewe Alexandra @745pm - the Dons picked up a badly needed win at fellow strugglers Rochdale on Saturday to move six points clear of the relegation zone. Next up they face a side who are in the next group of teams immediately above them in the table. Crewe are winless in six but have a good record against Wimbledon who have only beaten them once since their return to the EFL in 2011. Tickets
Leyton Orient v Gillingham @745pm - a blip of three games without a win saw the O's briefly surrender top spot to Stevenage but their victory at Carlisle on Saturday put them back in pole position. Although the Gills have stopped losing games, becoming the division's draw specialists, they're having real trouble winning and have only managed two all season. A home win looks highly likely. Tickets

National League
Wealdstone v Notts County @745pm - there are three really decent games in the fifth tier on Tuesday but sadly I haven't got time to preview them all. Given I've previously written quite a bit about Boreham Wood and Bromley, I think it's time Wealdstone got a mention. The Stones were the top non-league club in the country back in 1985, winning the equivalent of the National League title and FA Trophy in the same season. Since then, they sold their ground, struggled to find a new one, led a nomadic existence and fell down the leagues. However, they've built themselves back up and now find themselves hosting league games against former top-flight clubs like Notts County who arrive at Grosvenor Vale as league leaders. It should be a huge occasion and I'd strongly advise you to buy tickets in advance

National League South
Dulwich Hamlet v Worthing @745pm - with the club confirming Paul Barnes as their new boss earlier in the week, the Hamlet picked up a crucial win over relegation rivals Hungerford to move away from the bottom four. Next up are recently promoted Worthing who started well but have lost the ability to win, with a number of draws just about keeping them in the play-off places - another one here looks quite possible

Southern League Premier Division South
Hayes & Yeading United v Poole Town @745pm - having spoken to eye-witnesses, H&YU blew a great chance to beat league leaders Truro on Saturday, throwing away a 2-0 lead to eventually lose 4-3. It's not likely to get much easier on Tuesday as fourth-placed Poole make the journey up from Dorset

Isthmian League Premier Division
Wingate & Finchley v Brightlingsea Regent @745pm - in north London, there's a relegation 'six-pointer' as two of the division's bottom five go in search of a highly valuable win

--------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday 26 October

UEFA Champions League
Tottenham Hotspur v Sporting Lisbon @8pm - back-to-back league defeats to Manchester United and Newcastle United have significantly weakened Spurs' grip on third place. As a result, they'll probably be quite glad of a switch to European football. Currently top of Group D after beating Eintracht Frankfurt in their last game, Antonio Conte's side will qualify for the next stage if they win here. Sporting come into this game on the back of a 3-1 win  over Casa Pia who they leapfrogged into fourth in the Portuguese league with the victory. Tickets are not available to non-members

UEFA Youth League
Tottenham Hotspur v Sporting Lisbon @1pm - the two clubs' U19 sides will also be playing each other earlier in the day at Spurs' training ground. A very limited number of free tickets are available and to see if any are left you need to call the ticket office on 0344 844 0102, and select Option 2

UEFA Women's Champions League
Chelsea v Vllaznia Femra @8pm - the Blues began their Champions League campaign with an eye-catching win at PSG last week to give them real confidence of going far in this year's competition. Vllaznia are the Albanian league champions and were expected to struggle in this very strong group but they gave a good account of themselves in their opening game, only losing 2-0 to Real Madrid. Nevertheless, anything less than a win will be extremely disappointing for Chelsea. Tickets

Isthmian League North Division
Grays Athletic v Gorleston @745pm - the Blues don't get much of a mention on here but they're doing rather well. Currently fourth in this division, they could cut the gap on leaders Lowestoft to six points if they beat lowly Gorleston

--------------------------------------------------------------
Thursday 27 October

UEFA Europa Conference League
West Ham United v Silkeborg @8pm - with their game against Bournemouth on Monday and a trip to Manchester United not long after this, the Hammers face a tiring week. With the Premier League proving a bit of a struggle, this competition has provided a nice change of pace for David Moyes' side who've won all their games so far. With a place in the next stage already guaranteed, a point here will see them confirmed as group winners. Silkeborg are currently fourth in the Danish league and lost the reverse fixture 3-2 back in September. Tickets

UEFA Women's Champions League
Arsenal v FC Zurich @8pm - the Gunners' women return to the Emirates in stunning form. Top of the WSL with a 100% record and freshly returned from France where they destroyed reigning European champions Lyon 5-1, things are looking really good for Jonas Eidevall's side. Their Swiss opponents lost their opening group game 2-0 against Juventus and should be beaten here. Tickets
----------------------------------------------------------------

Friday 28 October

National League
Barnet v Scunthorpe United @745pm - there's a rather random bit of fifth-tier action to look forward to on Friday night. If Barnet win their derby game at Bromley on Tuesday, then success here will probably see them climb back into the play-off places. The visitors lost their place in the EFL last season and they've really struggled to adjust to life in non-league. Although their form has improved in recent weeks, they're still just a point above bottom club Torquay. Tickets

Professional Development League
QPR v Ipswich Town @1pm - there are a couple of U21 matches on Friday but this one is being played at the R's main Loftus Road home. Entry is usually by donation to club's community trust

Essex Senior League
Woodford Town v Saffron Walden Town @745pm - for me, the best non-league option of the night is this one between two of the top eight in the ESL

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday 29 October

Premier League
Brentford v Wolverhampton Wanderers @3pm - with three games to choose from, there's a pretty busy top-flight programme on Saturday. The Bees suffered a 4-0 humbling at the hands of managerless Aston Villa on Sunday but they remained 10th as other results went their way. Wolves are also without a manager at the moment but rather than thriving, they lost 4-0 to fellow strugglers Leicester to make things even gloomier at Molineux. Thomas Frank's side are tough to beat at home and you'd expect them to bounce back here. Tickets are only available to members
Crystal Palace v Southampton @3pm - another two of the division's also-rans meet at Selhurst Park for a game that both sides will hope to get something from. Only a point apart in midtable, there isn't much to separate these two but the Eagles will hope the flair of Eze and Zaha sees them over the line. It should be noted, however, that the Saints have done well here in recent years with only one defeat from their last five visits. Tickets are only available to members
Fulham v Everton @530pm - the day concludes with this match at Craven Cottage where the hosts will look for a third win in a row, which could lift them into the top six. Marco Silva's side have been a revelation since coming up from the Championship with no-one predicting they'd do this well but consecutive victories over Aston Villa and Leeds United have put them right back up there. The Toffees have been much improved after their problems last season, with Frank Lampard making them much tighter at the back. Their problem now is scoring goals, averaging less than one a game. Fulham could well win again but it looks like a draw to me. This game appears to have sold out

League One
Charlton Athletic v Ipswich Town @3pm - the hosts could well be in the play-off places by the time this kicks-off, meaning this match could be huge. Suffolk club Ipswich have made a very bright start and if they beat Port Vale on Tuesday, they could arrive at The Valley as leaders. In 2002 both these clubs were in the Premier League - could this be the season they both take a big step back towards it? Tickets

League Two
AFC Wimbledon v Harrogate Town @3pm - after their match against Crewe in midweek, the Dons face another important game against a club at the wrong end of the table. Yorkshire club Harrogate are still relatively new to life in the EFL having won promotion to it in 2020. With only three wins from 14 this season, they're down in 20th and in serious need of some points. Tickets
Leyton Orient v Salford City @3pm - we know that the O's are having a cracking season but what of Salford? Famously owned by a consortium including David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Phillip Neville and Paul Scholes, the Ammies flew through the divisions following their initial investment but seem to have stalled upon reaching the fourth tier in 2019. Currently eighth and very much in contention for a play-off spot, they'll be hoping for a repeat of the 2-0 win they managed here last season. Tickets

Premier League 2
West Ham United v Liverpool @4pm - if you fancy a bit of U21 action on Saturday then the Hammers welcome the Reds to their Rush Green training facility near Romford. Admission is usually £5 on the gate

National League
Dagenham & Redbridge v Wealdstone @3pm - at the time of writing, these two are locked together in midtable on 19 points but both have midweek games that could see a gap open up between them. The Daggers are unbeaten in six against the Stones and they won five of those games

National League South
Dartford v Weymouth @3pm - there aren't any stand-out games in this division on Saturday so I'd advise you to go and check out the Darts who are currently third and seemingly the most likely TLFG club to make a title challenge. The visitors are bottom but managed their first league win of the season on Saturday as they won 3-2 at Slough

FA Trophy First Round
Harrow Borough v Hayes & Yeading United @3pm - the standout tie of the round in the London area is this derby between two old rivals on the west side of town. Currently both in the Southern League, the sides last met in August at the same ground and it was H&YU who came away with a 2-1 win which they could well repeat here. The winners will receive a cheque for £3,000 and the losers £775

Isthmian League South Central
Northwood v Chipstead @3pm - there aren't any obvious humdingers in the eighth tier so see what you think of Northwood. They've made a blistering start and are seven points clear at the top at the time of writing. With 10 points from 10 games, the Chips could've made a better start

CCL Premier Division North
Egham Town v Broadfields United @3pm - it's a similar story across the ninth tier where none of the top clubs are playing each other. Of the ones that are in action, the Sarnies are currently first in this division and they'll hope this is the year they make it back into the eighth tier which is arguably their more natural home. Broadfields are pottering along in midtable and will do well to get anything here

SCEFL Division 1
Meridian VP v Lydd Town @3pm - sadly there aren't any huge match-ups in the 10th tier either so if you head down to Charlton, you can watch Meridian take on top club Lydd who will be looking to extend their two-point lead at the top
---------------------------------------------------------

Sunday 30 October

Premier League
Arsenal v Nottingham Forest @2pm - at the time of writing this match sees the top club play the bottom one. Realistically, Manchester City will probably be top by the time this kicks-off as they play the day before but you never know. Forest have found life back in the top flight to be tough but they managed a morale-boosting win over Liverpool on Saturday to stay in touch with the clubs above them. Steve Cooper's side hit the headlines last season when they beat the Gunners in the Third Round of the FA Cup at the City Ground. However, they haven't won away to Arsenal since their 3-1 victory at Highbury in 1989 when goals from Stuart Pearce, Nigel Clough and Franz Carr saw them come from behind a few weeks before the Gunners famously won the title at Anfield. Forest won the League Cup themselves that year and both outcomes are still possible this season. Tickets are only available to members

FA Women's Super League
Arsenal v West Ham United @645pm - with the men's game out of the way, Gunners fans will have the best part of three hours to make the journey north to Boreham Wood for this women's game. As mentioned earlier, Jonas Eidevall's side are firing on all cylinders at the moment so should start as favourites for this derby game. Hammers boss Paul Konchesky made numerous signings over the summer and they're up in fifth after winning three of their opening five. Tickets
Chelsea v Aston Villa @2pm - if you're up for it, it's actually pretty easy to do a WSL doubleheader on Sunday given this match at Kingsmeadow starts at 2pm. The Blues are currently on level points with Arsenal and Manchester United at the top but have crucially played a game more. The margins at this end of the table are particularly fine with every point crucial in what is usually a tight title race. A Villa side inspired by new signing Rachel Daly made a great start but consecutive losses to West Ham and Everton have seen them slide back into midtable. Tickets

FA Women's Championship
Charlton Athletic v Bristol City @2pm - the pick of the action in the women's second tier sees the Addicks, currently in fourth, welcome the leaders. Three points clear at the top, City are the only side in the division with an unbeaten record

Women's FA Cup Third Round Qualifying
QPR v AFC Wimbledon @2pm - clubs in the women's fourth tier enter the draw at this point in the competition and two of them have drawn each other in what for me is the tie of the round in the London area. Currently fifth and third respectively, these two should put on a good show. Originally scheduled for last Sunday, this match is being played at Hanwell Town

TLFG: 17-23 October 2022

It's late so I'm going to keep this brief.

How was your week? Did you see many games?

Aside from my daughter's U10 game up at Alexandra Palace on Saturday morning, I also went to see Actonians Reserves play for the first time.

They're currently top of the Greater London Women's Football League - in the women's seventh tier.

Up against strugglers Clapham United at the Gunnersbury Park Sports Hub, just a few hundred metres from Brentford's GTech Stadium, they started as strong favourites.

Actonians Reserves gave a commanding performance against Clapham United

However, the visitors hadn't read the script and went 1-0 up and then 2-1 up midway through the first half.

After settling themselves, Actonians took control.

It was 3-2 at half-time and an impressive 8-2 by the end.

Apparently many of the players have first-team experience but for one reason or another prefer to play at this level despite being more than good enough to play in the FA WNL.

If they carry on like this, they could well end up in the same division as Brentford's first team next year which would be quite something!

Next weekend, the first team make their bow in this season's Women's FA Cup against Ashford Town who they beat in their last league match so hopefully they'll repeat that at Rectory Park where I hope to be.

Looking even further forward to the World Cup, I received an interesting email this week from reader Tuncay Y who would like to see TLFG provide a guide of where different nationalities will gather to watch matches in London during the tournament.

Do you have any information on where the best places will be to see the likes of Australia play France or Qatar take on Senegal? All suggestions very welcome.

I think that's it from me, have a great week.

THE WEEK AHEAD

The highlights of the next few days include games in the Europa League, Premier League, EFL, FA Cup, FA Vase, FA Women's Super League, Women's FA Cup and many other games in our local non-league and women's competitions.

Monday 17 October

League One
Charlton Athletic v Portsmouth @8pm - the week gets underway with this big third-tier game. The Addicks picked up a hugely important 4-2 win over Exeter in their last game as their worrying run came to an end. They face another tough opponent here as Pompey are fourth but are suffering a bit of a blip, having not won in three. Tickets

--------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday 18 October

Premier League
Crystal Palace v Wolverhampton Wanderers @815pm - with four points from their last two games, the Eagles have moved up to 13th. However, this end of the table is really tight and a defeat to struggling Wolves could see them back in the relegation zone by the weekend. Tickets have sold out

EFL Trophy
Leyton Orient v Chelsea U21 @7pm - the O's drew with fellow title hopefuls Northampton on Saturday to stay second. On Tuesday they return to EFL Trophy action and this eye-catching group game against the Blues' youngsters. A top academy side have yet to win this competition since they were allowed to enter. Maybe this will be the year one of them breaks through? Tickets are £10
Sutton United v Oxford United @745pm - the U's were seconds away from winning this competition last season but they let in a late equaliser before losing in extra-time. This season hasn't been quite as exciting but they did win their big derby with AFC Wimbledon at Plough Lane on Saturday to put them in good spirits ahead of this. Oxford are usually in the promotion hunt in League One but they've made a disappointing start and are struggling for form. Tickets are £12

Premier League International Cup
Fulham v Celtic @7pm - it may only be an U21 game but any matches featuring one of the big two from Scotland usually draws a decent crowd. Strangely it's being played at Fulham's training ground in Motspur Park rather than Craven Cottage but tickets, which must be bought in advance, are available for £3

FA Cup Fourth Round Qualifying Replay
Hampton & Richmond Borough v Torquay United @745pm - the Beavers managed a 2-2 draw in the original tie in Devon on Saturday, a decent result given Torquay play a division above them. Back on home turf, I believe they should have enough to beat a side who have only won two of their 13 league games this season. Tickets are cheaper if bought online in advance

Essex Senior League
West Essex v Enfield @745pm - if you're on the north-east side of town, then Wadham Lodge in Walthamstow is the place to be as the top two go head-to-head for control of top spot

--------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday 19 October

Premier League
Brentford v Chelsea @730pm - there's a big derby in west London which should pique your interest. The Bees got back to winning ways with an important 2-0 victory over Brighton on Friday night to move them back into the top half. The Blues also enjoyed a 2-0 win at Aston Villa on Sunday to stay in the top four. Brentford have only beaten Chelsea five times in their history but the last time was in April when they crushed them 4-1 at Stamford Bridge. That's unlikely to happen here but if Ivan Toney et al are in top form, then they've got a chance. Tickets are not available

Championship
Millwall v Watford @745pm - if you can't source a ticket for Brentford then you've got two good options in the second tier. Neck-and-neck on 20 points, these two both have a chance of getting very close to the play-off places with a win here. Although there isn't a huge rivalry between them, at less than 20 miles apart, this does have a derby feel to it. Tickets
QPR v Cardiff City @745pm - after three consecutive wins put them joint top, the R's went and lost 3-1 at Luton on Saturday to end the weekend fourth but only a point behind the leaders. They'll want to bounce back quickly here and Cardiff are struggling. Rangers have won four of their last five against the Welsh club and should start as favourites. Tickets

London Senior Cup First Round
Balham v AFC Wimbledon @745pm - once again, it's great to see the Dons entering a side in the LSC. More professional sides should do it as it adds a bit of interest to the competition and can create some extra revenue for the non-league sides that take part. These two met in the same competition two seasons ago with Balham's players getting a chance to play at Plough Lane. On that occasion, Wimbledon edged to a 2-1 win and a lot will depend on how strong a side they opt to field here

ECL Division 1 South
May & Baker v Benfleet @745pm - only three points separate the top six and these are two of the clubs involved. The hosts play at Aveley's ground so Benfleet don't have far to travel

--------------------------------------------------------------
Thursday 20 October

UEFA Europa League
Arsenal v PSV Eindhoven @6pm - being played at a ridiculously early time so as not clash with the televised Premier League games also taking place on Thursday evening, this was set to have been played several weeks ago but the death of the Queen saw it postponed. The Gunners have had an amazing start to the season, winning 12 of the 13 matches they've played. PSV aren't doing too badly either with 10 wins from their 13 matches putting them second in the Eredivisie and just behind Arsenal in Group A of the Europa League. Tickets are only available to members

Premier League
Fulham v Aston Villa @730pm - the hosts fought out a 2-2 with Bournemouth on Saturday to keep them ticking over nicely in midtable. The same can't be said for Villa whose defeat to Chelsea left them just a point above the relegation zone. Pressure is building on boss Steven Gerrard and he'll desperately want to get something here. Tickets
----------------------------------------------------------------

Friday 21 October

FA Vase First Round
May & Baker v Enfield @745pm - with the qualifying rounds completed, the 'proper' part of the competition begins on Friday night. There are a couple of ties but this one between one of the top clubs in the 10th tier against one of the best ones in the ninth tier looks well worth a watch

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday 22 October

Premier League
Chelsea v Manchester United @530pm - one of the biggest matches of the season takes place on Saturday evening. When two members of English football royalty meet, it's always an occasion to savour. This year neither of them are likely to be title contenders as they're already eight and 11 points adrift of Arsenal respectively. However, it's not impossible and a win for either should instill great confidence. Chelsea are unbeaten in five against the Red Devils. Tickets are not available

Championship
Millwall v West Bromwich Albion @3pm - with boss Steve Bruce sacked earlier in the week, the managerless Baggies went to promotion contenders Reading and won 2-0 on Saturday to pull away from the relegation zone. The Den is an intimidating place for most teams but West Brom don't fare well there at all, managing only won win on their last 10 visits. Tickets
QPR v Wigan Athletic @3pm - since winning promotion from League One, the Latics have been models of inconsistency with five wins, four draws and five defeats. As a result, they're snugly in midtable and will probably be there or thereabouts by the end of the season. The R's haven't lost at home to Wigan since 2003 and they should win again here. Tickets

League Two
Sutton United v Walsall @3pm - only a point apart in midtable, this should be close. Last season saw the first two games ever played between these clubs and the Saddlers won them both 1-0. There could well be a similar outcome here. Tickets

Premier League 2
There are two U21 games kicking off at 12pm, so if you want to see two matches in a day then it's quite possible. Chelsea play Blackburn Rovers at Kingsmeadow and tickets are £5. Tottenham are playing Fulham in a derby at their training ground where entry is a bit tougher but can be arranged by calling the ticket office

FA Women's Super League
Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City @1130am - there's also an early kick-off at Leyton Orient's ground where two of the bigger names in the WSL look to improve on their slow starts. Both managed wins this weekend to move themselves away from the relegation zone. Tickets

National League
Boreham Wood v Wrexham @3pm - the game of the day in the fifth tier is a real David v Goliath contest as it pits the smallest club in the division, in terms of average attendance, against its biggest. Despite this, The Wood are third and only four points behind second-placed Wrexham. The hosts have been punching well above their weight since joining this division in 2015 but the Welsh club are a real bogey team for them having managed only one win from 14 attempts against them. Tickets

National League South
Dulwich Hamlet v Hungerford Town @3pm - the Hamlet recently sacked long-serving manager Gavin Rose and they've yet to appoint a permanent replacement. Interim boss Paul Barnes has tried to steady the ship but results have still been poor and only goal difference is keeping them out of the relegation zone where visitors Hungerford currently reside - the loser will end the day in the dreaded bottom four. Tickets

Isthmian League Premier
Hornchurch v Horsham @3pm - although there are some midweek fixtures which could alter the standings, at the time of writing, this would appear to be the best seventh-tier match on offer. Currently both in the top six, one of them could be third by the end of the day

Isthmian League South Central
Chertsey Town v Ashford Town (Middlesex) @3pm - having made a disappointing start, the Curfews sacked their manager and brought in former boss Dave Anderson who famously won the Combined Counties League and FA Vase double in 2018/19. His second reign began with a narrow 3-2 defeat in the big derby at Walton & Hersham which was played in front of nearly 600 fans - highly impressive for this level. On Saturday they face another local rival who are also very much in the promotion mix

FA Vase First Round
Erith Town v Crawley Down Gatwick @3pm - there are several Vase ties in London on Saturday but time constraints mean I'm only going to pick one and it's this one. It features two of the best sides in the parallel SCEFL and SCFL and should therefore produce a decent tie
---------------------------------------------------------

Sunday 23 October

Premier League
Tottenham Hotspur v Newcastle United @430pm - the biggest game of the day takes place in north London where, at the time of writing, third plays sixth. It could be even better for Newcastle but they've become the division's draw specialists with six from their first 10 games. Spurs are unbeaten in five against the Toon and have scored 14 goals in the process. Tickets are only available to members

Championship
Watford v Luton Town @12pm - the Hornets have a reputation for being a family club where you'll enjoy a safe afternoon. However, their derby against Luton is one of the most poisonous around. Fans of these clubs really don't get on and it is one of the most notable matches of the Championship season as a result. The Hatters are in better form at the moment but are only a point ahead of their bitter rivals. With the clubs moving up and down the divisions in recent years, they've only played five times in the 21st century and they've got two wins apiece and one draw - it's too close to call. Tickets are not available

FA Women's Super League
West Ham United v Reading @3pm - the Hammers inflicted Aston Villa's first defeat of the season on Saturday in what was a bad tempered game. With Hawa Cissoko and manager Paul Konchesky both shown red cards, the east London club did well to hold on for a 2-1 win. Reading are bottom and still yet to pick up a single point after losing 1-0 at home to leaders Arsenal on Sunday evening. The hosts, playing at Dagenham & Redbridge, should win. Tickets

FA WNL Southern Premier
London Bees v Watford @2pm - after thrashing Crawley 4-0 in midweek, Watford went top as their impressive start to life in the third tier continued. Local rivals London Bees, who play at The Hive, lost to struggling Gillingham on Sunday and missed the chance to go fourth

The match is being played at Hanwell Town

TLFG: 10-16 October 2022

Greetings one and all and welcome to this week's TLFG.

A busy week at work means I haven't been able to watch anything myself but there's been plenty going on.

From a personal point of view, my teams all won!

QPR saw off Reading to go joint top of the Championship, Harrow Borough beat Corinthian Casuals on penalties in the FA Trophy, England's women beat USA 2-1 and my daughter's side also won their game 2-1 too.

How was your week? Did you get to any matches?

The next few days look action packed with the FA Cup Fourth Round Qualifying something I'm particularly looking forward to on Saturday.

There are several ties around London and they are the sole focus of Saturday's non-league 'Daily Digest' as they deserve to take centre stage, such is their importance.

I hope to make my first visit of the season to Loftus Road on Tuesday lunchtime to watch the U21 game between QPR and Millwall and I might squeeze in another game in the evening or on Wednesday but I might be pushing my luck if I do.

At the time of writing, there are a few tickets knocking about for the games at Fulham and West Ham this week so get on it quick as opportunities to see London's Premier League sides in action without membership are few and far between.

For the groundhoppers among you, there's a chance of a 'triple' on Saturday as Chelsea U21s play Manchester United at 12pm and Watford host Norwich in the Championship at 745pm.

Which 3pm kick-off you sandwich in between is up to you!

Lastly, keep your messages and communications coming in. I love to hear where you're going, where you've been, emails about what to see or corrections when I get it wrong.

This week, I received a photo which features two TLFG reader legends - Liam B and Pie The Non-League Dog.

Pie and Liam - friends reunited in Forest Gate

They were both at the Old Spotted Dog, London's oldest ground, to watch Clapton CFC women beat Denham United 4-1. Thanks a lot for taking the time to send it.

TLFG DAILY DIGEST
In the following section, I list, by day, what are in my opinion the most notable games of the week and give some brief reasons for my choice. Check the maps above for kick-off times, ticket info and directions.

Monday 10 October

Professional Development League
Charlton Athletic v Ipswich Town @2pm - if you're around on Monday afternoon then the Addicks have an U21 game against the Tractor Boys. The match is being played at Dartford's ground

Isthmian League Premier
Carshalton Athletic v Aveley @745pm - the Robins have made a poor start and are in the bottom five. It's unlikely to get much better here as the Millers have been great so far and will go top if they win

--------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday 11 October

League One
Charlton Athletic v Exeter City @745pm - winless in eight after drawing at Lincoln City on Saturday, the Addicks worryingly find themselves down in 18th. The Grecians, on the other hand, recorded a very impressive 2-0 win at promotion chasing Barnsley and could find themselves in the play-off places with a win here. Tickets

Premier League International Cup
West Ham United v PSV Eindhoven @7pm - for something a bit more exotic, head east to Dagenham & Redbridge's ground where the Hammers' U21 side take on their counterparts from PSV in this group game

Professional Development League
QPR v Millwall @1pm - want to see two games on Tuesday? Then head to Loftus Road at lunchtime for this decent looking derby. Admission is usually by donation to the club's charitable trust - as it stands, I hope to be at this one

Southern League Premier Division South
Hanwell Town v Hayes & Yeading United @745pm - last season, H&YU were the main contenders for the title from the London area but they fell away towards the end and lost in the play-off final. They've lost a considerable amount of that squad and are now only 10th. However, the table is incredibly tight with only five points separating the teams in fourth and fifteenth. This season, newly promoted Hanwell are leading the London charge and are currently the team in fourth. With some great performances in the league, an impressive run in the FA Cup and a win in the FA Trophy on Saturday, the Geordies should start as favourites for what is also a local derby

Wednesday 12 October

UEFA Champions League
Tottenham Hotspur v Eintracht Frankfurt @8pm - with one win, one draw and one defeat, Spurs have made a very mixed start to their Champions League campaign. On Wednesday they welcome German opposition who have also picked up four points from their three Group D games and whom they drew 0-0 with last week. Having won the Europa League last season, Eintracht come into this on the back of a shock 3-0 defeat to the Bundesliga's bottom club Bochum whilst Tottenham won at Brighton to stay in the Premier League's top three. Tickets are only available to members and their guests

Isthmian League Premier
Kingstonian v Brightlingsea Regent @745pm - the best non-league option of the evening is this seventh-tier fixture. After losing the right to play at Kingsmeadow, the K's have led a nomadic existence and our now onto their third groundshare since 2017. Having previously played at Leatherhead and Corinthian Casuals, this season they have begun a new tenancy at Imperial Fields - the home of Tooting & Mitcham United. Such movement is tough for any side, let alone a non-league one, and I fear for the long-term future of one of south-west London's most historic clubs. On Wednesday they welcome Essex club Brightlingsea who are only a couple of points behind them and in the bottom four

FA WNL Division 1 South East
AFC Wimbledon v London Seaward @745pm - there are also some decent women's games on Wednesday, the pick of which is this London derby. Being played at Carshalton Athletic's ground, the Dons will look to break back into the top four with a win. Seaward are currently third and could move level on points with second-place Norwich if they win

Thursday 13 October

UEFA Europa Conference League
West Ham United v Anderlecht @8pm - with 34 titles, Anderlecht are the most successful club in Belgian league history but they're going through a lean patch. With no silverware since 2017 and nothing in European competition since their heyday in the '80s, the Brussels club are having a mare this season too. Already 17 points behind leaders Royal Antwerp, this season looks to be all about the cups. The Hammers have been pretty underwhelming themselves but the Conference League has been their morale booster with all three games won. They beat the Belgians 1-0 last week so you'd expect them to come out on top here too. Tickets

Friday 14 October

Premier League
Brentford v Brighton & Hove Albion @8pm - since thrashing Manchester United two months ago, the Bees have only managed one more league win and they've now drifted down to 12th. Thrashed 5-1 by Newcastle on Saturday, things must be getting a little worrying for their supporters. Since the departure of boss Graham Potter, Albion have managed a draw with Liverpool and a narrow defeat to Spurs to remain in the top seven. The Sussex club did the double over Brentford last season and they should start as favourites here. Tickets have sold out

ECL Division 1 South
May & Baker v Burnham Ramblers @745pm - for me, the most interesting non-league option is this 10th-tier game. Third place May & Baker welcome leaders Burnham to Parkside. Two points currently separate them but the hosts have four games in hand

Saturday 15 October

Premier League
Fulham v AFC Bournemouth @3pm - promoted together from the Championship, these two have made much better starts than many predicted. Ninth and eighth respectively and only a point apart, this should be close. Since their 9-0 demolition by Liverpool in August, the Cherries have gone from strength-to-strength under caretaker manager Gary O'Neil and come into this on the back of a 2-1 win over Leicester. The last two matches between these clubs have ended 1-1 and it could well go the same way again. Tickets
Tottenham Hotspur v Everton @530pm - as mentioned above, Spurs have made a good start but what about the Toffees? After last season's struggles, it's mainly about consolidation for Frank Lampard and he seems to be doing alright. With only nine goals conceded from nine games, they've got the joint best defence in the league. However, they've only scored eight so midtable it is. When they last played in March, Tottenham won 5-0 but a repeat of that looks unlikely. Tickets have sold out

Championship
Watford v Norwich City @745pm - the demands of satellite television mean this game between two sides relegated from the Premier League last season has an evening kick-off. Rubbish for travelling Canaries fans but great for groundhoppers who can now see three games on Saturday with relative ease. Since seeing his side thrash Stoke City in his first game, new boss Slaven Bilic has seen the Hornets return to losing ways with back-to-back defeats against Swansea and Blackpool. Down in 13th, they could find things tough against current co-leaders Norwich but they are two without a win themselves and lost to Preston on Saturday. Tickets

League Two
AFC Wimbledon v Sutton United @3pm - one of the games of the day at any level is this south London derby at Plough Lane. Neither side have been pulling up any trees in the fourth tier so far this season but they're holding their own in midtable. With only two points between them, the Dons will leapfrog the U's with a win. The sides have only met three times since AFC Wimbledon's formation and Sutton have won two and drawn one but their form is poor coming into this - it's anyone's! Tickets
Leyton Orient v Northampton Town @3pm - in the context of League Two, this match is even bigger as two of the title contenders meet at Brisbane Road. The O's were flying but have dropped to second after going two without a win. The Cobblers were all poised to replace them but have lost two at the same time and failed to capitalise. With Stevenage now out in front, these two need to recover their form to keep up. Tickets

Premier League 2
Chelsea v Manchester United @12pm - I mentioned above that you can see three games on Saturday, well this is your first one. Being played at Kingsmeadow, it's only £5 a ticket to see this very interesting looking U21 match. Tickets must be bought online in advance

FA Cup Fourth Round Qualifying
A huge moment in the FA Cup, this round is the last one the non-league clubs have to get through before League One and League Two clubs enter the draw. For some, this can lead to the biggest match in their history and help generate transformative funds.

Barnet v Weston-super-Mare @3pm - on paper the Bees, who play two levels above the visitors, should start as favourites. However, the National League side have conceded 20 goals in their last four games to give them the worst defensive record in the fifth tier. Weston, on the other hand, have only conceded seven in nine games and are second in the Southern League with a game in hand. This has real cupset potential. Tickets
Beckenham Town v Dagenham & Redbridge @3pm - the Becks, who play in the eighth tier, are the lowest-ranked club left in the competition from the London area. Beginning their run in the Extra Preliminary Round, they've had to win five games to get this far and have banked over £13,000 in prize money already. National League South promotion hopefuls Dartford were their most notable victims in the Second Round Qualifying but the Daggers should represent a further step up in quality. Although in better form than Barnet, the east London club do have a leaky defence which the hosts will need to target to have any chance. Tickets are £10 on the gate - cash only
Boreham Wood v Wealdstone @3pm - after meeting in the league at Grosvenor Vale on Saturday, these two local rivals will play again in the FA Cup at Meadow Park. The Wood took the honours with a 2-1 win to move up to third on Saturday and with home advantage, should start as favourites again. Tickets
Bromley v Hereford @3pm - there should be a bumper crowd at Hayes Lane for this. The Ravens are among the early-season pacesetters in the NL and have the recent experience of a successful cup run, having won last season's FA Trophy. Hereford are the phoenix club that followed the collapse of former league club Hereford United. As a result, they have a substantial fan base and should bring a good number of them. They play a level below Bromley so will start as underdogs. Tickets are cheaper if bought online in advance
Hendon v Chippenham Town @3pm - struggling in the Southern League, the FA Cup has provided the Greens with some light relief this season. They're now only 90 minutes away from making the First Round, something they have a proud tradition of having done 20 times since 1952 - no mean feat. They famously made it all the way to the Third Round in 1974 and took Newcastle United to a replay. Chippenham aren't quite in that league but they do play a level above and they'll do well to beat them. Tickets are cheaper if bought online in advance
Hornchurch v Oxford City @3pm - the Urchins caused a shock in the last round by beating Braintree Town of the National League South. Oxford play in that division too and haven't won a league game since August. They also made a meal of beating Southern League strugglers Plymouth Parkway in the last round so a cupset looks very possible here. Tickets can be bought online or on the gate
---------------------------------------------------------

Sunday 16 October

FA Women's Super League
Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool @2pm - the WSL returns after the international break and Spurs are playing their first game at Leyton Orient's ground, which will be their main home this season. Both these sides have begun with a win and a loss so they're hanging around in midtable. On paper, Tottenham should beat the newly promoted Reds. Tickets

FA Women's Championship
Charlton Athletic v Blackburn Rovers @12pm - there's an early kick-off in the second tier where the Addicks could go top if they beat Rovers who are struggling to get going
Crystal Palace v Sunderland @12pm - if Charlton slip up, the Eagles could claim top spot for themselves as they face a Mackems side who are also towards the wrong end of the table

FA Women's National League Southern Premier
London Bees v Gillingham - up at The Hive, the hosts could also break into the top three with three points here. Gillingham have only managed one win this season and are second from bottom
